In February 2024, I had the privilege of visiting Mother Care Orphanage Home, a place where children in need find shelter, care, and love. This visit was part of a broader effort by the Mikael Rayaan Foundation, in collaboration with Gulzar-e-Madina, to support around 10 orphanages in Pakistan by providing food, clothing, and other essentials. Our beloved founders, Dr. Umair and Dr. Sibgha, entrusted me with the task of spreading some joy among these children—and I couldn’t say no.

A Warm Welcome and Tour of the Facility

Upon arriving, we were greeted with smiles and excitement. The children were eager to meet us, and the staff’s warmth was evident. The orphanage, while modest, is well-maintained, with clean dormitories, a play area, and communal spaces that foster a sense of family. One heartwarming detail: the owner of the orphanage lives in the same house with his own family, creating a true family atmosphere for the children.

Meeting the Children: Dreams and Aspirations

After the tour, we had the opportunity to meet the children individually. Each child had a unique story—some had been abandoned, while others came from difficult circumstances at home. Despite their challenging pasts, their resilience and positivity were inspiring. Many shared their dreams—some wanted to become cricketers, others aspired to join the army. Their ambitions were as bright as their smiles, and I have no doubt they will achieve them.

A Moment of Joy: Distributing Toys and Games

One of the day’s highlights was distributing toys and games to the children. The excitement on their faces was priceless, as these simple gifts represented more than just playthings—they were symbols of care and hope. We spent time playing games, laughing, and enjoying the joy that only children can bring. It was a reminder of how essential it is for children to experience happiness, even in difficult circumstances.

Sharing a Meal: Building Bonds

After the games, we sat down to share a meal with the children. They helped serve the food and clean up afterward, showing maturity and responsibility. The meal was a time to bond, and I felt a deep sense of community as we ate together. These children, who had once been forgotten, had found a family at Mother Care Orphanage, and for that, I felt truly grateful.

A Special Moment with a Special Needs Child

One of the most touching moments of the day was meeting the orphanage’s only special needs child. Despite facing unique challenges, this child radiated joy and warmth. However, we learned that due to a lack of funding, the special needs wing had to be closed. This was a sobering reminder of how vulnerable children are when resources are limited.

Discussing Future Collaborations

After spending time with the children and staff, we sat down with the management to discuss how we could support the orphanage moving forward. They shared the ongoing challenges, from limited funding to maintaining the facility. But amidst these challenges, there was also hope. The staff’s dedication to the children was clear, and we discussed various ways we could help, whether through donations, partnerships, or community outreach programs.

Reflection and Call to Action

Leaving Mother Care Orphanage that day, I felt a profound sense of gratitude. The resilience, love, and optimism of the children and staff were inspiring. It was a reminder that every child deserves a chance to grow, dream, and be loved.

Mother Care Orphanage is doing incredible work, but like many such institutions, they need support from the wider community. I encourage you to consider how you can make a difference—whether through volunteering, donations, or spreading awareness. Together, we can help create a brighter future for these children, offering them the opportunities they deserve.

It was an honor to be part of their world for just a day, and I look forward to continuing to support their mission. I hope you will join me in helping them build a better tomorrow for the children of Mother Care Orphanage.
