Introduction:

In response to the displacement of millions of families in the Middle East, the Mikael Rayaan Foundation initiated collaborative efforts with the Gulzar-e-Medina Foundation to support orphans in Istanbul, Turkiye. Our mission is to provide care, education, and support and assistance to orphan children affected by war, political unrest, and natural disasters in the Middle East.

Impact:

We extended support to ten orphaned children in the initial phase in 2023, offering them a safe and nurturing environment. We provide educational support to ensure access to quality education and personal development opportunities. We facilitate access to essential healthcare services, addressing the medical and psychosocial needs of the children. Orphans are given a monthly stipend to support their necessities. Kids live with their mothers (if alive) or with other family and receive formal education spending their day at the sponsored program. We have yearly visits planned to Türkiye with quarterly virtual meet ups.

Challenges and Opportunities:

  • Resource Management: Effective resource management to meet diverse needs poses a challenge, requiring careful planning and coordination.
  • Long-Term Sustainability: Ensuring the long-term sustainability of support services remains a key focus.
  • Expanding Reach: Opportunities exist to expand the project’s reach and assist more orphaned children and families in need.

Looking Forward:

  • Expansion and Outreach: We aim to expand support to more orphaned children in Istanbul and explore extending assistance to additional regions.
  • Skill Development Programs: Introducing skill development programs to empower orphaned children with valuable skills.

Advocacy and Awareness: Increasing advocacy efforts to raise awareness about the plight of orphaned children and garner support for their well-being.
